Kitten Wellness Program

Have you adopted a new kitten and are not sure what to do next?

We recommend kittens be seen for their first wellness check up at 6-8 weeks of age.  On their first visit we recommend having a fecal check performed to screen your kitten for potential intestinal parasites that may require treatment (+/- Deworming).  Kittens will start their series of recommended vaccinations at this time and continue to repeat booster vaccines every 3-4 weeks until your kitten is 16 weeks of age.  We will also review our recommendations for monthly flea/tick and intestinal parasite control.

Annual boosters are recommended after the initial vaccination schedule is completed.

Spay or Neutering is recommended between 5-7 months of age to prevent planned pregnancies, behavior marking, etc.

We also recommend your kitten be tested for FELV and FIV at 8 weeks of age or older.  This simple blood test can be run in our office while you wait.

NOTE:  Feline Leukemia (FELV) and Feline Immune Deficiency Virus (FIV) are contagious and potentially fatal diseases.  These viruses are associated with the illness and death of more cats than any other group of infectious diseases.  We highly recommend testing your kitten before introducing it to any other cats in your household.
