Puppy Wellness Programs

Have you recently brought a new puppy into your home and are unsure about the necessary vaccinations?

We recommend your puppy has it’s first wellness check at 6-8 weeks of age.  At the first vet visit we recommend a fecal sample be checked for an intestinal parasite screening (+/- Deworming).  The initial distemper/parvo vaccine is usually administered at this time.  The kennel cough vaccine (Bordetella)  may also be recommended.  We will also discuss parasite preventatives during your puppies first exam  (ie heartworm, flea, tick and intestinal parasite control are recommended monthly and continued on a year round basis).

Booster vaccines (Lyme disease, Distemper/parvo, Leptospirosis, Bordetella and Canine Influenza are some of the vaccines that are available for dogs to help protect against disease exposure) and follow up examinations will be repeated every 3-4 weeks until your puppy is 16 weeks of age.  At this time the rabies vaccination will be given.  Annual wellness exams and  vaccinations are recommended to help keep your dog happy and healthy for years to come.

Spay and Neutering is recommended to prevent unplanned pregnancies, behavioral marking, etc.  Recommended age for these procedures depends on the breed of your puppy.  The veterinarian will discuss this with you during one of the wellness exams.
